Los Angeles is a sprawling city where knowing restroom locations in advance can save you from a stressful situation. The good news is that LA's many parks, beaches and libraries provide reliable options throughout the metro area.

LA County Beaches

Every public beach in LA County โ€” Santa Monica, Venice, Manhattan Beach, Malibu, Zuma โ€” has public restroom facilities. Most are open year-round and maintained by the county. Expect basic amenities; some beach restrooms include outdoor shower stations to rinse off sand.

City and County Parks

LA City parks and LA County parks both operate restroom facilities. Griffith Park has multiple stations near the Observatory, the pony rides area, and the Greek Theatre entrance. Echo Park, MacArthur Park, and Pershing Square all have facilities. Hours are typically dawn to dusk.

Los Angeles Public Library

The Central Library downtown and all branch libraries welcome the public to use restrooms during open hours. With 72 branches, a library is reachable in most neighborhoods.

Shopping Centers

The Grove, Santa Monica Place, Beverly Center, Westfield malls โ€” all major shopping centers have clean, well-maintained restrooms. These are often your cleanest option in commercial areas.

Tip: The Refuge Restrooms app (refugerestrooms.org) crowdsources restroom locations including gender-neutral options, which are common in progressive LA neighborhoods.

Gas Stations

Unlike in some cities, many LA gas stations โ€” especially 76, Shell and Chevron locations โ€” offer customer-accessible restrooms. Simply ask at the counter for a key.

Transit Hubs

Union Station (downtown LA) has clean restrooms open to the public. Major Metro rail stations including Hollywood/Highland and Wilshire/Vermont also have facilities.
